Palantir CEO Claims AI Will Eliminate Need for Mass Immigration

Palantir CEO Suggests AI Will Make Large-Scale Immigration Unnecessary

Palantir Technologies CEO Alex Karp declared at the World Economic Forum in Davos that advances in artificial intelligence will generate sufficient jobs to eliminate the need for mass immigration in Western nations. Speaking during a conversation with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Karp argued that AI-driven job creation will address labor market demands without requiring large-scale immigrant workforces.

“There will be more than enough jobs for the citizens of your nation, especially those with vocational training,” Karp stated. “I do think these trends really do make it hard to imagine why we should have large-scale immigration unless you have a very specialized skill.”

The AI Job Displacement Argument

Karp acknowledged that AI will displace workers across multiple sectors, noting that even highly educated professionals will face significant disruption. He used his own Ph.D. in philosophy as an example, suggesting that “elite” white-collar roles will be among the first affected by automation. However, he predicted that vocational workers will retain employment longer as economies shift toward AI-driven productivity.

The Palantir chief expressed concern about narratives suggesting AI will destroy jobs entirely, stating: “I think one of the unfortunate things of the narrative in the West is it will destroy humanity’s jobs.”

Contrasting Perspectives from AI Industry Leaders

Not all technology executives align with Karp’s assessment. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei countered that critical thinking skills will become increasingly valuable, and that the technical roles Karp emphasizes are actually declining in demand at major AI companies.

Palantir’s Immigration Enforcement Role

The remarks carry particular significance given Palantir’s substantial involvement in immigration enforcement operations. The company’s surveillance technology has been instrumental in Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s deportation efforts, despite Karp’s earlier characterization of himself as a “card-carrying progressive” and his prior opposition to mass deportations.

The company’s ImmigrationOS platform has drawn criticism from data privacy advocates for its extensive surveillance capabilities and the way it frames immigration primarily as a national security threat.
